History is making history every day. Seizing the potential of the History brand, we are embracing opportunities to tell immersive, authentic and powerful stories. As the leading destination for all things history, our hit series and event specials cover a variety of genres, including natural history, pop culture, archaeology, military and exploration. The breadth and depth of our programming speaks to audiences around the dial, and our investments focus on content across all media platforms.
Running on all cylinders, 2008 was a record-breaking year with huge year-over-year gains in adults 25 to 54 and adults 18 to 49. History ended the year as the No. 1 nonfiction network for men 25 to 54 (excluding sports)1 and rose to the top 5 among all ad-supported cable networks in the demo.2 The success continues in 2009 as the network is up 9 percent in adults 25 to 54 and up 10 percent in adults 18 to 49, respectively, from 2008.3 The bar is even higher as History reveals some of the most compelling new and returning series and event specials ever. Back is our American Originals hit series, with "Ax Men" and "Ice Road Truckers"; and our Living History franchise kicks off with "Expedition: Africa" from prolific producer Mark Burnett. Other series joining the lineup are "Cowboys and Outlaws" and "Mystery Quest." Event specials include "The People Speak," "Moon Shot" and the multipart "World War II in HD."
History is everywhere consumers are—a global brand, a new-media brand, a digital brand, a traditional linear brand, a publishing brand and a consumer products brand. And we just keep getting stronger, so stay tuned.
